This week marks National Apprenticeship Week, the biggest week in the apprenticeship and skills calendar. This year’s theme is “Skills for Life” and to mark the occasion we wanted to take to opportunity to introduce our great apprentices.
We have network engineer apprentices as well as an in-house solicitor apprentice.
Network engineer apprentices
Our network engineer apprentices are taking part in a Level 4 programme which takes 24 months. In partnership with VQ Solutions, they receive blended learning through online learning, live tutor-led classes, one-to-one learning, and of course on-the-job experience with our team at Freshwave.
Zoe Sweetman
“I chose to do an apprenticeship because I liked the idea of doing a role related to my degree that provides me with relevant experience while also helping me achieve qualifications required for my professional goals. I’m enjoying the opportunity to work closely with industry professionals and being able to learn and get support from them. I believe it’ll be helpful to my professional growth as I will be able to hear about their experiences.
“After joining Freshwave it’s been really interesting understanding all the different roles that go into making up the business.”
Nasser Basam
“I decided to do an apprenticeship in network engineering at Freshwave because it offers the perfect balance of hands-on experience and structured learning. It’s a great opportunity to learn from experienced professionals, develop real-world skills, and start building my career – all while earning a salary.
“What I enjoy most is the constant learning – not just within my role, but also from others in the office and how their work connects to mine. I also like the opportunity to get involved in projects, collaborate in team environments, and gain a broader understanding of the industry.
“Freshwave is a really welcoming environment. Everyone has taken the time to speak to me, offer their support, and make me feel like part of the team.”
In-house solicitor apprentice
Our in-house solicitor apprentice is with us through a partnership with Flex Legal, which has a Flex Trainee programme. The Solicitor Qualification Exam (SQE) route was designed to open the legal profession to a wider pool of talent. It represents an opportunity for organisations to support the next generation of lawyers and improve social mobility in the profession. The Flex Trainee programme helps both legal teams and aspiring solicitors make the most of the opportunity, with trainees working in the organisation for a minimum of 12 months to build Qualifying Work Experience while completing the academic component of their qualification.

“I opted for the apprenticeship route because it allows me to gain hands-on experience in a professional legal environment while studying part-time. This helps me understand and apply my legal knowledge in practice. I believe the best way to learn is in the real world.
“While many traditional routes are available, the apprenticeship really provides a unique opportunity to grow not only in your professional career but also on a personal level due to the need to balance work and education which requires immense dedication and resilience.
“I like that apprenticeships offer structured learning, providing a balanced approach to education and skill development. I enjoy applying my on-the-job learnings and experiences to my studies, which makes it easier for me to understand complex concepts. The ability to earn a salary while training for my qualification is also financially beneficial.
“More importantly, I love that I can build valuable professional relationships and networks so early on in my career which is great for personal development and growth. This experience has helped boost my confidence, independence, and problem-solving abilities while navigating real-world challenges.
“I’m extremely grateful to Flex Legal and Freshwave for providing me with this invaluable opportunity and incredible support through the apprenticeship route in the hope of qualifying as a solicitor one day.”
